Esta cadeira é típica dos anos 50 e distingue-se pelo design formal e clareza, pelo fato de que usa um mínimo de materiais. George Nelson comparou a Coconut à um coco cortado em oito seções.

O Designer

George Nelson foi um dos fundadores do chamado modernismo americano juntamente com Charles e Ray Eames. Nasceu em Hartford, Connecticut em 1908 e faleceu em New York, em 1986. Estudou arquitetura na universidade de Yale, e graduou-se em 1928. Também se tornou bacharel em Artes em 1931.
